Producing of the American Eagle Bullion coins started in 1986 with the sale of gold and silver bullion coins. Producing of the American Eagle Platinum coins started in 1997. All the coins are imprinted with their precious metal content and legal tender face value.

Today American Eagles are the most widely traded bullion coins in U.S. and are accepted worldwide.

How to buy American Eagle Bullion Coins

The U.S. Mint does not sell American Eagle coins directly to the public (except the proof versions) but sell them through a network of wholesalers, precious metal firms, brokerage companies, coin dealers and banks.

American Eagle Bullion coins are sold based on the current spot price of precious metals plus a premium for coinage, distribution, and marketing costs. You can find various prices and discounts among bullion dealers.

American Eagle Gold Coins

American Eagle Gold Coins are minted in four different weights – 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz and 1 oz. They use the durable 22 karat gold including small amounts of alloy to resist scratching and marring.

A collectible proof version of the American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin is available directly from the U.S. Mint.

Since 1986, the United States has minted one-dollar silver coins called “Silver Eagles.” Each Silver Eagle contains a one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver.

Prices of Silver Eagles are based on the spot price of silver, plus a small premium to cover minting and distribution costs.

American Eagle Platinum Coins

American Eagle Platinum Coins first issued in 1997. They are the first and only official investment-grade platinum bullion coins from the U.S. Government. The American Eagle Platinum coin is the only platinum bullion coin whose weight, content and .9995 purity are guaranteed by the U.S. Government.

The 1-oz American Eagle Platinum Coin coin displays the highest face value ($ 100) ever to appear on a U.S. coin.
